Falling Objects and Gravity. Air Resistance When an object falls, gravity pulls it down. Air resistance works opposite of gravity and opposes the motion.
Mass, Weight and Gravity. Student Learning Objectives Students will be able to explain mass of objects with reference to a basic atomic structure Students.
FORCES Lesson 1 Friction and Gravity. What is a Force? (p.44) A push or a pull on an object in a particular direction.
Gravity. GRAVITY DEFINED  Gravity is the tendency of objects with mass to accelerate towards each other  Gravity is one of the four fundamental forces.
Don’t let it get you down!
The Force of Gravity. Gravity Gravity- the force that pulls objects towards the Earth Free fall- when the only force acting on an object is gravity –
FORCE – A PUSH OR A PULL THAT CAUSES THE CHANGE IN MOTION OF AN OBJECT THERE ARE FOUR FUNDAMENTAL FORCES IN NATURE: 1)GRAVITATIONAL FORCE – IS ALWAYS.
The Science of Motion Cool Dudes of Science! Aristotle From the Louvre.
Gravity. Gravity is a pulling force It pulls things down towards the earth.
L-3 Review – inertia Inertia  the tendency of objects to resist changes in motion. –If an object is at rest, is stays at rest. –If an object is moving.

The Gravitational Force. GRAVITY The force that attracts a body towards the center of the earth, or towards any other physical body having mass The Sun’s.
Gravity The force of attraction between objects that is due to their masses.

Newton's Laws of Motion.
Today is all about GRAVITY!!!
Acceleration The rate at which velocity changes. Includes: increasing speed decreasing speed changing direction (with no change in velocity)
Chapter 10-2 Friction and Gravity. Friction Force of Friction – caused by two surfaces rubbing Strength: depends on 1) how hard the surfaces are pushed.
Gravity 1.Gravity requires air/atmosphere. 2.The strength of a gravitational force depends on the mass of objects. 3.ALL objects in the Universe attract.
Gravity and Motion. Isaac Newton Isaac Newton was the first person to hypothesize that the force that pulls an apple to the ground also pulls the moon.
Friction, Gravity, & Elastic Forces
Gravity. Defining Gravity Gravity is the force of attraction between objects that is due to their masses.
Gravity is a force that pulls objects toward each other. Legend says that Isaac Newton discovered gravity when he saw an apple fall from a tree Sir Isaac.
GRAVITY. INTRODUCTION Friction explains why a book comes to a stop when it is pushed. But why does a book fall to the ground if you lift it and let it.

UNIVERSAL LAW OF GRAVITATION There is an apple on my head Gravity is greater when mass is larger and distance is shorter. www.makemegenius.com Free Science Videos for Kids

www.makemegenius.com Free Science Videos for Kids Law of Gravity The size of the force depends on the mass of the objects. The bigger they are, the bigger the force! Small attractive force Bigger attractive force www.makemegenius.com Free Science Videos for Kids

Gravity and our Solar System The Sun’s gravity is what holds our solar system together. Since Jupiter is the largest planet, it has the most gravity. Pluto has the least amount of gravity. www.makemegenius.com Free Science Videos for Kids

www.makemegenius.com Free Science Videos for Kids Gravity The force of gravity on something is called its weight. Because it is a force it is measured in Newtons. Weight www.makemegenius.com Free Science Videos for Kids

Mass and Weight are two different Properties of Matter Mass is a physical property of matter that explains how much matter is in an object Mass does not change when gravity changes WEIGHT Weight is a force which is calculated by multiplying the acceleration of gravity times mass. Weight can change when gravity changes www.makemegenius.com Free Science Videos for Kids

Dropping a ball If you drop a tennis ball and a football from the same height at the same time they would hit the ground at the same time. All objects fall to earth at the same rate regardless of their mass.

Dropping stuff However if you dropped a bowling ball and a feather they would not land at the same time. Why? Air resistance acts as an opposing force and slows objects down.

What we often refer to as weight is actually mass. Our mass is measured in kilograms (but sometimes still in stones and pounds).

If your mass is 60kg, it stays the same wherever you are. Your weight may change according to how strong the gravity is where you are.

Gravity makes objects accelerate (go faster as they fall).

Gravity The Earth’s gravity pulls objects towards the centre of the earth. The force of the Earth’s gravity on you is called your weight. Weight is measured in Newtons. What we often refer to as weight is actually mass. Our mass is measured in kilograms (but sometimes still in stones and pounds). Gravity makes objects accelerate (go faster as they fall).
