Bull Fights Matadore and his group (cuadrilla: team of bullfighters) 2 picadores – lancers mounted on horseback 3 banderilleros – flagmen 1 mozo de espada - sword page There are 3 matadores and they each fight 2 bulls. Three stages Picadores lance the bull in the back of the neck Banderillos put lances in the bulls back Matadore kills the bull by putting a sword through its heart.

Bull Fights cont. Season begins around Easter (Semana Santa) and ends around October. Can’t buy tickets online (have to go to the actual venue or through a ticket broker) Animal rights issue

Corrida de Toros (Running of the Bulls) San Fermín, Pamplona Notorious site Has St. Fermín who is the patron saint of the festival and the city. La Corrida de Toros honors him. Must be 18 or older and arrive before 7:30 am in order to enter. Participants can be gored or trampled.

La Tomatina A festival where participants engage in a huge tomato fight. Over 150,000 tomatoes are used (40 tons) How it starts 1. People attempt to climb a greased pole to remove a ham. 2. When the ham is removed a cannon shot rings out and then the tomato throwing commences for an hour.
