ATLAS Muons MEG Review BNL 19-Jan F.E. Taylor 3.5 Labor Plans Anticipate that resources for FY07 will need to be about the same as in FY06 MR

ATLAS Muons MEG Review BNL 19-Jan F.E. Taylor Impact of Not Funding MR FY06 & FY07  FY06 – $276k  Engineering & Technical support cut - Schedule Slippage  $40k Pre-Ops MDT Chambers (UoM & UoW) (WBS )  $225k Pre-Ops CSCs Phase II (BNL) (WBS )  $11k Tech Support for Monitor & Calib Center (UoM) (WBS )  FY07 - $1365k  Deep cuts in personnel - Meeting BW, SW RFI Dates Untenable  $160k MDT Phase II (WBS )  $513k MDT Phase III (WBS )  $92k MDT Operations – Beam On (WBS )  $263k CSC Pre-Operations Phases II & III (WBS 3.5.2)  $136k Alignment Pre-Operations (WBS 3.5.3)  $202k Monitoring & Calibration (WBS 3.5.5)

ATLAS Muons MEG Review BNL 19-Jan F.E. Taylor Safety  General Safety Training  All US persons upon CERN have to take CERN General Safety Course  Rigging  After rigging accident in B180 new procedures put in place, documented and riggers trained  Scissor Lift Certification  3 US persons have been trained & ~ 6 more are scheduled for training  Crane School  1 person trained & more scheduled  Height – Harness Training  3 persons trained & more to be scheduled  Procedures in B180  A CERN person now designated in charge  Authorized to stop unsafe operations  Enforces wearing Hardhats & Safety Shoes  Protocols distributed by paper to US work crews & will be posted on web by ATLAS GLIMOS  Written in English, French and Russian  Procedures in UX15 posted on ATLAS page  Enforced by ATLAS GLIMOS

ATLAS Muons MEG Review BNL 19-Jan F.E. Taylor Conclusions  US Manpower and Operations moved to CERN  Tasks defined and organization in place and coherent with CERN  Key engineering & technical personnel CERN –Several physicists & engineers with line responsibilities are commuting  Delays have accumulated  BW Chamber Installation & Commissioning  B180 occupancy delayed and slow delivery of BW frames & tooling  Tooling is now complete but more Pakistanis/Russians needed  SW Chamber Installation & Commissioning  B191 occupancy delayed by ECT  Installation in UX15 date ~ fixed - more work to be done in parallel  EIL4, BW and SW installation work will overlap in CY06  5 ‘Operations’ simultaneously conducted  Share manpower, share tooling, logistical overhead  M&O resources will have to support this compressed schedule  Sustained funding anticipated in FY07 at ~ FY05/FY06 Level  Installation & Commissioning of Wheels and chambers in UX15
