A baseball player has played baseball for several years. The following table shows his batting average for each year over a 10 year period. 1) Enter the data in a graphics calculator, and find the least- squares line. 2) Find the correlation coefficient. 3) Use the least –squared line to predict the baseball player’s batting average in

 We can use equations to solve many real-world problems. Many of these equations are too difficult to solve by just using mental math alone. The properties of equality make it possible to find solutions to more complicated equations.

 An EQUATION is a statement that two expressions are equal.  The VARIABLE is a symbol that represents many different numbers in a set of numbers  The SOLUTION of the equation is the value of a variable that makes an equation true.

 Simplify each side of the equation  Use the distributive property to get rid of parenthesis.  Combine like terms  Solving is like balancing a scale…what you do to one side, you have to do to the other.

 
