9 built in Art Creation Activities Students will have the opportunity to explore the creation process through 9 different forms of modern art. In each activity they are challanged to create an original work of art through the process of an established artist. (MOMA, 2013)

Mobile Alexander Calder A Kinetic Sculpture artist, uses wire and organic/geometric shapes to create. This activity asks the students to problem solve the issue of balance and contrast, while creating their own mobile. (MOMA, 2013)

Reductive Editing Arshile Gorky A Painter that creates original artwork by using a solid color to paint over an existing image, selecting what the audience will view. Students are asked to paint over an image from their gallery. (MOMA, 2013)

Minimilistic Line Drawing Sol LeWitt Provides students with instructions for how he creates his original artworks. Use “Lines, Not Straight, Not Touching, Four Colors”. (MOMA, 2013)

Interpretation Elizabeth Murray Use line and shape to express music or noises. (MOMA, 2013)

Chance Collage Jean (Hans) Arp Allow pieces of torn paper to randomly fall onto the canvas. The artist repeats this process until they are satisfied. Students are given the opportunity to experiment in this technique. (MOMA, 2013)

Planned Collage Henri Matisse Used bright paper to create collages. Students are challenged to create a collage using geometric and organic shapes. (MOMA, 2013)

Restrictive design Jim Lambie Restricted himself to only using line to create images and installations. Students are to use line to express an idea. (MOMA, 2013)

“Exquisite Corpse” Multiple artists collaborate to make original works of art, using a combination of objects, culminating in a representation of the human form. Students are asked to team up and create their own corpse. (MOMA, 2013)

Art reflecting Poetry Brice Marden The artist uses line in layers to represent poetry. “a couplet is a pair of lines that fall next to each other in a poem.” Students are to create a poem from the lines of Mardens painting. (MOMA, 2013)
