8 Fleet Safety  Check whether a road journey is really necessary, and encourage the use of alternative modes of communicationand transportation where this is practical;  Ensure that necessary journeys are scheduled to a realistic timetable, are planned to take into account the needfor adequate rest periods and use the safest available routs. 9 Fleet Safety  Provide a driver’s handbook that supports the organization’s policies and procedures, includes road safetyguidance and sets out individual driver responsibilities eg.What to do in the event of accident;  Ensure that all employees driving on behalf of the organization are initially vetted, inducted and regularlyassessed, to establish that they are properly licensed,competent, suitably trained and medically fit to drive.
