3 Fleet Safety Fleet Safety Management is a measure, inwhich drivers and company’s vehiclesmovement were managed in a safe, secure andefficient oriented. What is Fleet Safety?

4 Fleet Safety Reduce crashes happen to the organizationalvehicles and earn benefits and reputation oforganization through safety and security. Objective of Fleet Safety

5 Fleet Safety  Reduce incident losses;  Reduce in staff time lost;  Reduce insurance costs;  More effective vehicle use;  Improve staff moral;  Improved road safety in communities;  Organization’s reputation. Benefits

6 Fleet Safety  A senior manager must assume specific responsibility for managing fleet safety and driving at work;  A fleet safety and driving for work policy must be incorporated as part of the organization’s approach to staffwellbeing, safety and security.  Routinely undertake, record, and act on findings of risk assessments dealing with all aspects of fleet safety includingdriver safety, vehicle safety and journey management;  Award those who perform safely at work, and penalty the violators;  Ensure that every crash involving any vehicle driven on behalf of the organization is recorded, and that the data isregularly analyzed and accident to reduce the likelihood ofrecurrence.  Ensure that all drivers are vetted and proper licensed. How to implement Fleet Safety Management

7 Fleet Safety  Ensure that when choosing vehicles to be used on behalf of the organization that they are suitable for their intendedpurpose, and are fitted with all appropriate safety andsecurity features;  Ensure that all vehicles used on behalf of the organization are regularly inspected and applicable, in accordance withspecific licensing or operational requirements. Role of management

8 Fleet Safety  Check whether a road journey is really necessary, and encourage the use of alternative modes of communicationand transportation where this is practical;  Ensure that necessary journeys are scheduled to a realistic timetable, are planned to take into account the needfor adequate rest periods and use the safest available routs. Role of management (cont.)

9 Fleet Safety  Provide a driver’s handbook that supports the organization’s policies and procedures, includes road safetyguidance and sets out individual driver responsibilities eg.What to do in the event of accident;  Ensure that all employees driving on behalf of the organization are initially vetted, inducted and regularlyassessed, to establish that they are properly licensed,competent, suitably trained and medically fit to drive. Role of management (cont.)

10 Fleet Safety  Develop fleet safety guidance for the management;  Provide fleet safety presentation to management and drivers;  Provide technical support to management;  In collaboration with NRSC, MPWT, MOI to promote fleet safety management in NGOs and privatecompanies. Next steps
