A STEP-BY-STEP GUIDE FOR TEACHERS AND STUDENTS How to Use Google Documents

Step 1: Getting Ready You must ALREADY have a Google Account. Go to Sign in with your Google Account. At the top of your screen, look for the word “more” with a drop-down box.  Click “more”.  Find and click “Documents”.

Step 2: Creating New Documents Click “Create New” on the left-hand side of the screen.  You can choose to create a new Document (Word), Presentation (PowerPoint), Spreadsheet (Excel), Form, Drawing, Collection, or you can choose from templates. Once you have created your new document, click “File” and “Save Now” or Ctrl + S There are a lot of options as to what to do next, such as make a copy, download as a certain file type, and print.

Step 3: Uploading New Documents Click “Upload” on the left-hand side of the screen.  You can also change your settings under this tab. Once you click “Files”, find the file that you want to upload and click “Open”. The file may quickly upload or take a moment depending on the file size and type.

Step 4: Sharing It’s always nice to share, but make sure that you share with the right person/people, and that you give them access only to what you want them to have access to (viewing and/or editing). Click on the document that you want to share. At the top, right-hand corner, click “Share”. Type in the address(es) that you want to share the document with. If you want them to edit, that means that can change things to the document. If you want them just to look at the document, click “Can view”. Click “Share”.
