Close up Shot

Environmental Portrait

Background Information The subject of these photographs was my husband, Sean, who works in a corporate, 9- to-5-type environment. I like that on weekends, he can easily transition to a care- free spirit who loves to ride his Honda Shadow 1100, affectionately nicknamed “Holly.” The close up photo was taken outside on a grassy hillside. I took advantage of the natural lighting that the overcast day provided to avoid shadow effects.

Background Information With the environmental portrait, I used a Sony Cyber-shot 7.2 megapixel digital camera. The angle was shot from the ground to capture the subject as if he were riding the motorcycle. The overcast sky served as the backdrop to emphasize the openness and freedom from traditional boundaries the subject feels when he rides. Here, the subject and the machine became one.
