Magellan was born in the year of 1480 and in the country of Portugal. This is a map of Portugal.

Magellan sailed for the country of Portugal because many other people had tried to find a western route to the coast of South America and failed to do so. And the Portuguese king had no interest in finding the western route. In 1517, Magellan went to Spain and proposed to King Charles The 5 th to find this western route to the coast of South America.

The results of Magellan’s voyage proved that the world was round and you would not fall off of the edge of the earth if you sailed to far. The trip also gave mapmakers a true indication of the size of the world.
