Lyndon Johnson was the 36 th President.

In January 1968, North Korea captured the USS Pueblo, an American spy ship that they said had strayed into their waters. The US said that the ship was not in North Korean waters. The crew was held hostage until December The Americans admitted that it was a spy ship and promised not to spy in that region any more.

Crew of the USS Pueblo were released by the North Koreans in December The ship remained in North Korea. Today, the USS Pueblo is a tourist attraction in North Korea. Getting it back is a low priority for our government.

The Tet Offensive was a military campaign by the Viet Cong and North Vietnam against South Vietnam and the US. “Tet” is New year’s Day in Vietnam, also known as Spring Festival. The massive attacks took South Vietnam and the US by surprise, but they quickly responded and the war escalated.

Tet is the Vietnamese New Year in February, depending on the phases of the moon.

Dr. Martin Luther King was assassinated on April 4,1968 at the Lorraine Motel in Memphis.

Many riots followed the assassination of Dr. King.

Robert F. Kennedy, brother of President John F. Kennedy, ran for President in He was assassinated 2 months after the assassination of Dr. Martin Luther King.

Richard Nixon was the 37 th President.
