Haiti’s Earthquake January 12, 2010

General Info. Haiti’s an island in Hispaniola Islands and neighbor to the Dominican Republic. The Earthquake happened 15 miles southwest of the capital, Port-au Prince. In the Eriquilloplantain Garden Fault system, the North American plate tectonics had the Caribbean plates pushing against it, causing the Earthquake. The earthquake was measured as 7.0 on the Richter scale.

General Info. One of the poorest countries in the Western Hemisphere is Haiti and about 8% of residents live in poverty. 9,035,536 people live in Haiti. 80% of the people in Haiti are Roman Catholic. Official language is French. Its leaders were Prime Minister Jean-Max Bellerive, and President Rene Preval.
