Academic Prep at Mountain Ridge

Academic Prep: What is the purpose? Additional time and support for students who are in need of remediation and enrichment.

Academic Prep AcaPrep will be twice a week!

What can a student do during Academic Prep Periods? Make Up a Quiz Make Up or Get Help on Assignment Special Help Media Center Enrichment Reading (SDR) Remediation Homework/ Study Hall MTSS (Multi- Tiered System of Supports)

Wait, what is MTSS? MTSS is Multi-Tiered System of Supports. These will be opportunities for identified students needing extra assistance during Tuesday AcaPreps.

What additional activities can a student do on Thursday that s/he cannot do on Tuesday? Recognition Assembly Group Presentations Club Meeting

Using cell phone Watching TV Sitting in the hallway Listening to IPods, MP3, etc. Socializing Playing Cards Students will not be permitted to participate in non-academic activities such as:

Student Passes Get a pass from your teacher/sponsor the day before the AcaPrep. It is your responsibility to get the pass from your teacher. If you lose your pass, you must get another from your teacher before the AcaPrep.

Student Passes There are no permanent passes! Please be sure that you are turning your passes in to your teacher each AcaPrep! New passes need to be issued for each visit!

Student Passes Please note that the only exception to a permanent AcaPrep pass will be a Tuesday MTSS pass.

In addition to showing your teacher your pass, you will also need to sign out with your teacher, and then sign in to the teacher’s room you are heading to for AcaPrep!

How do you get an Academic Prep pass? From your teacher or club sponsor Who should you see to get an Academic Prep pass to the Media Center? Media Center specialist ONLY! How will you know if there is a special meeting during a Thursday Academic Prep? Listen to announcements Check daily bulletin through Power Schools

If you do not have an Academic Prep pass, where do you go? The student will remain in the classroom and work on an approved activity for Academic Prep. What will happen to students who are in the halls or outside without an Academic Prep pass? They will receive appropriate disciplinary action.

What if a student has an Academic Prep pass and that student does not show up to appropriate destination? If the student does not have a valid reason for not showing up, the student will receive a ZERO on the assignment/test/quiz they were to make-up.

What does a student do if s/he loses their Academic Prep pass? –The student needs to see the teacher who provided the pass to receive a new one.

What if a student is not well behaved during Academic Prep? –The student will receive appropriate disciplinary action. What can you NOT do during Academic Prep? –Watch television –Listen to Ipod, Mp3 player, have phone out –Play cards –Socializing

A few quick reminders... Students will be released with their AcaPrep passes AFTER the ringing of the AcaPrep bell. If a student goes to a teacher’s room on an AcaPrep pass, s/he will stay in that room the entire period. If a student is in sweep s/he can leave the sweep room to go to an AcaPrep destination if the student has an appropriate AcaPrep pass.
