CARNEGIE UNITS  Credit earned for successfully completing a course  0.5 (1/2) credit possible per class per semester  A semester is two nine-week periods averaged together 1 st 9 weeks + 2 nd 9 weeks = 1 st semester average 3 rd 9 weeks + 4 th 9 weeks = 2 nd semester average

SUMMER SCHOOL  2013 Summer Session Testing Sites: Lakeshore High and Slidell High (Students may test at either site)  Session 1: June 3 – June 28, 2013 Application must be postmarked by Wednesday, May 15.  Session 2: July 1– July 26, 2013 Application must be postmarked by Wednesday, June 12.  All Summer Session applications mailed to: Karen Myles DeVillier Edna Street Covington, LA Phone: (985) Fax: (985) Website:  All summer session courses will be offered online only.  There will be no traditional summer school.

SUMMER SCHOOL (CONTINUED) REGISTRATION:  Fall or “A” semester courses offered in session 1.  Spring or “B” semester courses offered in session 2.  Exception: Students who failed the EOC test and one semester of the EOC course must take that failed semester, A or B, in session 1. If you don’t know the student’s EOC score by the June application date, go ahead and apply. Necessary changes can be made later.  Students may take one or two half credits per session.  The fee is $150 per semester course.

Summer School Continued  Payment(s) may be made by cashier’s check or money order to St. Tammany Parish School Board (STPSB) or through PaySchools located at the STPSB website. No cash or personal checks will be accepted.  New Core Credit: Any new credit in a core course must be approved by the student’s principal.  New elective credit does not need principal’s approval.  Repeat Credit: A course that has already been attempted by the student. All requests for repeat credit must be accompanied by a copy of the student’s transcript or report card proving the course has been attempted. TOPS Louisiana’s Taylor Opportunity Program for Students is a comprehensive program of state of state scholarships.  TOPS CORE CURRICULUM:  19 CORE COURSES (Refer to page 37 of the Programs of Study)  20 ACT  2.5 CORE GPA (Refer to your student’s Core Progress Report)

TOPS TECH  TOPS Tech provides up to two years of skill or occupational training to be pursued at a Louisiana postsecondary institution that offers vocational or technical education degrees.  TOPS TECH award may be used to enroll in a variety of technical and skill programs ranging from Automotive Technology to Computer Electronics Technology to Cosmetology to Practical Nursing.  For more information, go to

Schedule Card  Your child’s schedule is marked with courses that are required for graduation.  If you want to change a pre-marked selection, draw a line through it and check the revised selection and initial.  The additonal number of courses the student needs to select is indicated on the card. Students will select a course based on graduation requirements, TOPS and their IGP’s.

FHS SCHEDULING PROCESS  Wednesday, April 24, 2013 Students will be scheduled through their World Geography class. Schedule Card, Transcript, and TOPS report will be given to the students. Students will have the opportunity to ask questions and schedule with a school counselor. Schedule Cards will go home with students. You will need to sign it. Students must return it to their World Geography teacher by Friday, April 26.
