So....What is the most important factor to remember and perform in any paint job? ??????????????????????????

THE PREPARATION WORK!! The most important (and most overlooked) part of every paint job is :

Incomplete, omitted, or improper prep work can lead to many problems later in your paint process. 1adhesion loss (paint chipping or peeling up) 2scratches, pits, uneven surface showing through color coats. 3Trash or foreign debris/particles in your paint. 4rough surface, aka orange peel finish. 5masking pulls paint up below.

General paint checklist for Diecast. And possibly other substrates. 1Remove all original paint, down to bare metal. 2Clean substrate adequately, free of dust, debris, and oils. 3Sand with 320 or 400 grit (paper and/or Scotchbrite equivalent) to give adequate adhesion. 4Clean, prime, and scuff sand primer before top coats. 5Add top coats according to paint manufacturers instructions. 6General rule..start with light “tack coat” allow a few seconds to dry, then add two to three more passes each increasing the paint amount and wetness slightly from previous until a full, wet coat is completed.

This will aid in the bond between top coat paint and metal. Primers also aid in preventing metal corrosion over time and fill minor defects in the surface. Types of primer vary, automotive primer will yield best performance, but requires spray equipment. Rattlecan primers are adequate for most situations, but will have performance differences.
