Wisconsin Aerial Imagery Ted Koch, Wisconsin State Cartographer’s Office WLIA 2005 Annual Conference February 24 th, 2005 High Resolution Images (< 1 meter; i.e. 6”, 12”, 18”) 2005 a banner year for digital orthophoto acquisition. Approx. 60% (~20 m acres) of state’s area. Value - approx. $2.5 million.

Wisconsin Aerial Imagery Ted Koch, Wisconsin State Cartographer’s Office WLIA 2005 Annual Conference February 24 th, 2005 What’s a Digital Orthophoto? Aerial photo –Captured by film-based or digital camera. –Contains distortions due to differences in terrain elevation and aircraft position. –Does not have constant scale across the image.

Wisconsin Aerial Imagery Ted Koch, Wisconsin State Cartographer’s Office WLIA 2005 Annual Conference February 24 th, 2005 What’s a Digital Orthophoto? Digital Image produced by: –Geometric correction of the image –Unwarping the effects of distortion due to terrain and camera position.

Wisconsin Aerial Imagery Ted Koch, Wisconsin State Cartographer’s Office WLIA 2005 Annual Conference February 24 th, 2005 What is a Digital Orthophoto? Produced from a variety of inputs: –Digital image –Control – values of known points –Terrain Model – DEM or DTM –Image rectification to terrain model, and fit to a map projection –Metadata
