Project Overview Capital Programmes Directorate

Capital Programmes Directorate Project Overview The project involves the safety critical remediation of approximately 500m of railway embankment. The embankment is showing signs of instability which could result in LU applying speed restrictions and partial closures, leading to severe disruption to the Jubilee Line and local community. The embankment will have discrete bored piles installed, new toe drainage and a re-graded slope. The new drainage will prevent the existing winter flooding of the adjacent gardens and surrounding area. After the works are completed the site will be re-vegetated with grass seed and wildflower seed mix. Birdboxes can be issued free to residents for location in their gardens

What could happen? Capital Programmes Directorate

Preferred Access Route Uxendon Hill A very small compound will be made at the toe of the embankment to service the works on the embankment. No mature trees will be felled in the park. With the exception of the dumpers, plant will be brought in once at the start and removed at the end of the works. A protective geo-textile will be laid along the length of the pathway. This significantly reduces any vibration, evenly distributes loads and protects tree roots. Capital Programmes Directorate 79 – 81 Uxendon Hill

Path Construction and Tree Protection Capital Programmes Directorate Terram Geocell in-filled with 20/40 stone to protect tree roots – free draining and suitable for heavy plant access

Access Route for 6t dumpers Capital Programmes Directorate Main Compound Uxendon Crescent Temporary site access

Type of plant Capital Programmes Directorate Small excavator (x1) dumper truck (X3) Roller (x2)

Minimising disruption to residents Capital Programmes Directorate The pathway will remain open to the public at all times. Public access will always take priority over the works. A full time banksman / traffic marshall will be present to marshal any vehicle movements through the pathway. No vehicle movements along the pathway during weekends. Dumper truck movements limited to 15 movements along the path per day. All machines are low noise output machines, and will be limited to 5mph. No large lorries will be allowed along Uxendon Hill, with the exception of the initial delivery and final collection of the excavators and rollers as well as the delivery and collection of the small piling rig. There will be no deliveries to the site with large trucks.

Minimising disruption to residents Capital Programmes Directorate By using Uxendon Hill the works are estimated to take around 6 to 9 months. Any other access route could lead to much longer time on site, and significantly more disruption to surrounding residents. LU have arranged for an external surveyor to carry out structural surveys of both adjoining properties to record the pre works condition of the buildings. Upon completion a further survey can be carried out if required. Road sweeper will be used to ensure Uxendon Hill remains clean of muck and debris. During dry weather – material will be damped down to minimise dust.

Capital Programmes Directorate Benefits of the project This essential work will help the Jubilee Line run a reliable service, which will help serve the local community. The design life is >120 years. Existing condition of the path will be improved to cater for the delivery of materials with the dumpers by placing compacted fill on the pathway. Pathway will be maintained throughout the duration of the project, and can remain in-situ upon completion Greatly reduced risk of flooding due to improved drainage The site will be reinstated and re-vegetated in accordance with LU’s biodiversity plan. LU are taking all possible precautions to prevent disruption to the local residents. We aim to minimise noise and limit the vehicle movements to the bare minimum where possible.
