LBJ’S “GREAT SOCIETY” Johnson cut taxes to encourage people & businesses to boost the economy The Economic Opportunity Act focused on helping the poor through education & service Head Start Pre-schools are still a big deal today VISTA and the Community Action Program encouraged volunteerism
LBJ’S “GREAT SOCIETY” LBJ created the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) to create cheap public housing for the poor The Immigration Act of 1965 ended the quota-by nationality system Medicare (govt. health insurance for the elderly) Medicaid (for the poor)
