Culture Background

Halloween  It is one of the most important festivals in western country.  In West, people believe that ghosts will come back on the night of Oct.31st in search of living bodies to possess for the next year. It was believed to be their only hope for the afterlife.

 Naturally, the still-living did not want to be possessed. So on the night of October 31st, villagers would burn the fires in their homes, making them uncomfortable. They would then dress up in all kinds of odd clothes and noisily walk around the neighborhood, being as destructive as possible in order to frighten away spirits looking for bodies to possess.

The common way to celebrate Halloween is lighting the Jack-O- Lantern (pumpkin lantern) The Jack-O-Lantern

 Kids like this day very much because they can do “Trick or Treat”  “Trick or treat” is a traditional activity at Halloween. Children dress in costumes and visit homes. At each house they say “Trick or treat ”. This means they will play a “trick”, or joke on the people in the house unless they are given a “treat”, for example, sweets or money. Most people prefer to give treats rather than having tricks played on them.

TThey like it also because they can have a party in which they can make up and let themselves looked like the famous star or the character in old stories.
