OpenStreetMap The Free Wiki World Map

OpenStreetMap is a free editable map of the whole world. It is made by people like you.

OpenStreetMap's hosting is kindly supported by the UCL VR Centre and bytemark. The project was set up in July 2004.

The map data in the system so far has mostly been built from scratch, through a collaborative mapping process. This normally begins with users uploading data onto OSM from their handheld GPS units or by using GPS Navigation software.

The main person associated with the project is Steve Coast. It is his full job The country they are in is England.

Google maps is a competitor to OpenStreetMap. It has no advantages over its competitors. The weaknesses of OpenStreetMap is that it takes too long to load

It is very easy to contribute to the project. Yes the project does tell me how to take part in it. Yes the project seems welcoming to a newcomer. I think the project is very good but it is just a copy of Google maps. If i was a member of the project i would improve it by showing a satellite version of the map and speeding up the loading time and the website.
