6/4/2016 Forklift 1 Safety Training Modules © – FAQ for Trainers 2 Can I train and certify my Forklift Operators?  Employers are responsible for determining  if employees are trained  according to OSHA Standards.  As an employer, you also  have the authority  to choose the methods  by which your employees are trained.

6/4/2016 Forklift 1 Safety Training Modules © – FAQ for Trainers 3 What are the requirements to be a Trainer?  OSHA indicates the same requirements for Supervisors and Trainers:  Knowledge of the law  which is embodied in the Code Standards,  Knowledge of and experience with forklifts, and  Experience training and evaluating Operators.

6/4/2016 Forklift 1 Safety Training Modules © – FAQ for Trainers 4 How do I prepare myself?  Trainers should prepare themselves by doing the following:  Study the federal and applicable state OSHA Codes  Acquire experience operating the different types of forklifts your Operators will operate  Be thoroughly familiar with your operating site and facilities and their hazards  Be familiar with the employees’ skills and experience levels  Prepare a lesson plan  Provide Classroom Instruction with Written Test  Evaluate Operators skills with a Operators Evaluation.  Provide an Interactive teaching and testing environment.

6/4/2016 Forklift 1 Safety Training Modules © – FAQ for Trainers 5 Do I need to be a Certified Operator?  Becoming a Certified Operator yourself  is probably the best first step you can take.  It trains you  and allows you to interact with a lesson plan  That you may  (or may not)  want to use when you are the Trainer.

6/4/2016 Forklift 1 Safety Training Modules © – FAQ for Trainers 6 Do I need to be a Certified Trainer?  Strange as it may seem, becoming a Certified Trainer is not necessarily required in order to train certify Forklift Operators!  OSHA does not provide Accreditation,  and as employer, you are responsible to determine the quality of training in your company.

6/4/2016 Forklift 1 Safety Training Modules © – FAQ for Trainers 7 Does Forklift 1 Safety Train the Trainer certify me?  You may work off Training Materials (like these),  hire a Safety Consultant,  have a Qualified Employee certify others,  or even Certify Yourself!  The real key is the CREDIBILITY of the Trainer and the quality and content of the training.

6/4/2016 Forklift 1 Safety Training Modules © – FAQ for Trainers 8 How do I make sure I am Up-to-Date?  You can make sure you are Up- to-Date by checking your state and the federal OSHA Web Site or calling your local state OSHA Consultation Service.  Forklift 1 Training Modules® are Up- to-Date effective the date of sale  Updates are always free to CD customers  Forklift1.com Web Sites will be Up-to- Date  Tom

6/4/2016 Forklift 1 Safety Training Modules © – FAQ for Trainers 9 How can I be sure I’ve covered all the bases?  The Bases you must cover, in the most basic form are as follows:  Have a Company Safety Policy in place and proceed top enforce it.  Make a diligent “GOODWILL” effort at Compliance with all OSHA Standards.  Document your Training in writing and keep a Forklift Safety File in a convenient location.  Always train personnel BEFORE placing them in service. No more On-the-Job Training for Forklift Operators!  Always seek to IMPROVE Safety. It is not a perfectible science.  But you can do a very Good Job!

6/4/2016 Forklift 1 Safety Training Modules © – FAQ for Trainers 10 Forklift 1 – FAQ for Trainers  Forklift 1 Train the Trainer is designed to help you by answering your questions,  by providing useful training materials, Code references,  providing Instructions and Suggestions.  Safety is the responsibility of Every Person.  You, as a Trainer, can instruct and also encourage your employees and inspire them to higher degrees of diligence.  People make Safety, and Safety really does pay:  Believe in THEM and believe in IT, and you will be an Excellent Trainer!  Thanks, and Good Luck!
