People Who Have Been Called Radicals: Lady Gaga Albert Einstein Hippies Adolf Hitler Malcolm X

After the war, our country was thought to be run by “radicals.” Here is the text book version of what happened:  Radical - in politics; a person with extreme views  In the 1860’s, radicals wanted to take away power of wealthy southerners/Democrats and ensure freedmen had the right to vote  Radical Republicans were the majority in Congress and encouraged Radical Reconstruction (Southern states had to redo constitutions)  Impeachment of Andrew Johnson – felt he was not supportive of equality, continued vetoing all bills

“Why not hang Thaddeus Stevens?” Andrew Johnson When a heckler yelled for Johnson to hang Jefferson Davis, this was his response.
