BRAZIL

RIO DE JANEIRO  Rio de Janeiro is the capital city of the state of Rio de Janeiro and is second largest city in the South American country of Brazil. "Rio" as the city is commonly abbreviated is also the third largest metropolitan area in Brazil. It is considered one of the main tourist destinations in the Southern Hemisphere and is famous for its beaches, Carnival celebrations and various landmarks such as the statue of Christ the Redeemer.

SOCCER  Brazil is famous for its amazingly talented footballers and its wonderful history in football, the worlds most popular sport. Brazil have won the FIFA World Cup 5 times. Brazilian footballers are also famous for football skills and tricks. Ronaldinho, Rivaldo, Ronaldo, Kaka and of course Pele are Brazilian football legends. Neymar, Fred, Hulk and David Luiz are amongst the Brazilian players who will be heading to the World Cup in the summer of this year.

GLOBAL WARMING  People are cutting down the Amazons beautiful trees for paper and wood etc. The amazon rainforest produces over 50% of the worlds oxygen. Lets not forget about the thousands of Animals that live in the Amazon rainforest like monkeys and jaguars. These animals are becoming endangered due to their habitat being cut down.  Do you want this to happen?

HISTORY  Pedro Alvares Cabral claimed the territory of Brazil for Portugal in The early explorers brought back a wood that produced a red dye, pau-brasil, from which the land received its name. Portugal began colonization in 1532 and made the area a royal colony in 1549.

MOVIES  A lot of movies have been shot in The Amazon, Rio and other parts of Brazil because directors think it’s a great place for an action Movie.  Movies like Fast and Furious starring Vin Diesel 6 and Paul walker (R.I.P), Welcome to the Jungle Starring Dwayne Johnson and The Incredible Hulk starring Edward Norton.

THE AMAZON RIVER  The Amazon River is located in South America. It runs through Guyana, Ecuador, Venezuela, Bolivia, Brazil, Colombia and Peru.  The length of the Amazon River is approximately 6400 kilometres (4000 miles).  The largest city along the Amazon River is Manaus. Located in Brazil it is home to over 1.7 million people.

RANDOM FACTS  There are over 3000 known species of fish that live in the Amazon River, with more constantly being discovered.  Brazilian families are often large; having five or six siblings is not unusual. Nearly one-third of the population is under eighteen!

FOOTBALL OR FOOD  In Brazil Poverty is growing and growing. The government are not helping by putting up the bus fair prices and spending Billions of dollars on 12 new Football Stadiums for the FIFA World Cup Families are starving on the streets and dying of hunger and the government are not doing anything to help.  It makes me think Football or Food?
