Focus/Ideas Strong main idea sentence Strong details that support our main idea Strong conclusion that reinforces main idea Stay ON TOPIC Know purpose for writing

Organization/Paragraphs Logical Order-Beginning, Middle, End Use time order words (first, next, then) Use transition words (for example, in addition, however)

Voice Choose a voice that matches audience and purpose for writing Use vivid adjectives to give strong details Use interesting language to involve readers Put yourself and your feelings into your writing

Sentences Use different ways to start sentences – Use nouns, adverbs, adjectives, pronouns, prepositional phrases, etc.. Vary kinds and length of sentences – Use questions, exclamations, and statements Connect short, choppy sentences with conjunctions (and, but, although, because)
