The 70’s By: Hernan Ramirez and Kassie Conard

North Carolina in the 70’s The Carolina Union payed mailing costs for letters about the war written to Congress men. As Vietnam got wore down, the Nixon administration took steps in history toward closer ties with the major Communist powers. The biggest move was a new relationship with the People’s Republic of China.

North Carolina in the 70’s In 1971 and 1972, Nixon sweetened the American stance, eased trading restrictions, and became the first United States president to ever visit Beijing. Things began to sour very quickly into the president’s second term. Very early on, he faced charges that his re-election committee had managed a break-in at the Watergate building headquarters of the Democratic National Committee and that he had participated in a cover-up.

Music in the 1970’s Most people today are still in love with the music from the 70’s. Like the Beatles, Led Zeppelin, The Eagles, and Pink Floyd. Heavy Metal (though not recognized as a separate genre from hard rock at the time) gained a cult following in the 1970s, led by Led Zeppelin, Black Sabbath and Deep Purple, with their styles later influencing other bands like Judas Priest and Motörhead, which eventually started the New Wave of British Heavy Metal in the 1980s.
