The Islamic University of Gaza Faculty of Nursing Course Title: Psychology for nurses Course number: NURS 1325 Credits: "3"semester hours Placement: Semester I Course Coordinator: Dr. Abdal Karim - Radwan 2

Course Description * Introduction to psychology is an introductory course offered to nursing students. It deals with the basic psychological concepts, theories and the normal psychological functions of every day behavior. 3

It also deals with reasons why people behave in the way they do, the meaning of that is that you have to predict the behavior of people around us and how to control it The course aim at installing a realistic understanding of the students to develop insight to the nature of the psychological processes. 4

To suggest how psychological knowledge and procedures can be applied in the solution of personal and social problems The course contains discussion of the major topics, which are of great importance to nursing such as Stress and adaptation defense mechanisms, child development, and learning process. Sleep and dreaming, motivation, etc. 5

Course Objectives Upon the completion of the course, the student will be able to: - 1.-Understand the basic psychological concepts and theories 2.- Define reasons for his /her own. 3.- Name the most common abnormal behaviors. 6

4- Deal effectively with people at work, and society as a whole 5-Explain the psychological function or application of the human personality. 6-Recognize the functions of every day human behaviors, which form a vital component of the individual’s health. 7
