Journal Writing Assignment #1:  Write 2 paragraphs about yourself.  Paragraph one is to summarize your educational and employment history to this point.  Paragraph two is to describe your short and long term educational and employment goals.

Journal Writing Assignment #2  Option 1:  Do you think you have any personal barriers that would prevent you from communicating effectively? Describe and explain compensatory strategies.  Option 2:  Describe barriers you will undoubtedly encounter in others. Explain what you can do to facilitate communication when barriers are present.

Communication Barriers Sample Paragraph  Sometimes I find I can’t communicate with others as easily as I would like. English is the only language I know, and that limits my ability to be understood by people whose primary language is something other than English. When I attempt to speak loudly, my voice tends to get more high pitched. That makes my voice even more difficult to understand for most people who have a hearing loss. When I am feeling somewhat stressed, I have a natural tendency to speak rapidly. This creates a need for the listener to process the information quickly and can lead to misunderstood information. Keeping myself aware of these limitations helps me to decrease their impact on others.

Journal Writing Assignment # 3  Write a paragraph describing your own personal wellness strategies & goals. Be sure to include both physical (such as exercise, nutrition, etc.) and mental wellness (such as stress management).
