Presentation on electronic government Presented to: Sir Adnan Presented by: Kiran shakoor (07- 05) Razeena Ameen(07-25)

What is e-government? E-Government, as known as electronic government, refers to government’s use of information technology to exchange information and services with citizens, businesses, and other arms of government

In an e-government system, individuals are able to initiate a request for a particular government service and then receive that government service through the Internet or some computerized mechanism

specific types of services delivered through e-government ? The four types of e-government services are Government-to-Citizen (G2C) Government-to-Business (G2B) Government-to-Employee (G2E) Government-to-Government (G2G).

Government-to-Citizen includes information dissemination to the public, basic citizen services such as license renewals, ordering of birth/death/marriage certificates as well as citizen assistance for such basic services as education, health care, hospital information, libraries,

Government-to-Business transactions include various services exchanged between government and the business community, including dissemination of policies, rules and regulations. Business services offered include obtaining current business information, renewing licenses, registering businesses, obtaining permits, and payment of taxes.

Government to Employees services encompass G2C services as well as specialized services that cover only government employees

Government to Government services take place at two levels: at the local or domestic level and at the international level. G2G services are transactions between the central/national and local governments G2G services are transactions between governments, and can be used as an instrument of international relations and diplomacy.

Benefits to citizen convenience Everyone expects more services online. You don't want to wait in a line for an hour to spend five minutes at a counter. We can save your time and energy by putting those services on the Internet

Benefits to citizen(cont) Better Customer Service You rarely need help with routine transactions. E-government lets agencies focus on things you usually need help with

This include Explaining complex policies Translating English for people who don't speak it well. Providing up-to-date news

Benefits to citizen(cont) More Information Access Not all decisions are made between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. during a weekday If you are looking for a house you may want information about an area during a weekend. E-government gives you 24- hour access to this and other information.

Benefits to business E-government saves companies money. Whenever your employees must drive to a government office or wait in a line, you lose productive time from them. Lost productivity is spent money. If your employees need more than one trip, then each trip is spent money. Putting services on the Internet gets rid of the driving time and time spent waiting in a line

Benefits to business(cont) More Information Access Your company must have information to make wise business decisions for their future. e- government collects a great deal of information on economic, demographic, and other trend. Access to this information can help you make decisions for your company that will lead to greater success.

Benefits to state Increased Efficiency Online transactions are faster than face- to-face transactions. Paper processing is automated, reducing time and the risk of clerical errors

Benefits to state(cont) Increased Esteem E-government makes the state more responsive to everyone's needs. This will help the public see the government as a positive force in their lives.

Disadvantages Electronic governments also consist on certain disadvantage. The main disadvantage of an electronic government is to move the government services into an electronic based system. This system loses the person to person interaction which is valued by a lot of people.

Disadvantages(cont) In addition, the implementation of an e- government service is that, with many technology based services, it is often easy to make the excuse (e.g. the server has gone down) that problems with the service provided are because of the technology.

Disadvantages(cont) The implementation of an e government does have certain constraints. Literacy of the users and the ability to use the computer, users who do not know how to read and write would need assistance.

Even though the level of confidence in the security offered by government web sites are high, the public are still concerned over security
