Autobiography ► The story of a real person’s life that is written by that person

Historic Fiction ► A fictional story with real and invented characters that takes place during a historical time

Realistic Fiction ► A story using made-up characters that takes place in modern times

Nonfiction ► A story based on true facts, not made up

Folktale ► Story passed on by word of mouth that teaches a lesson on how to behave (honesty or greed)

Tall Tale ► Tells the adventures of a larger-than-life hero

Myth ► Tells about gods and goddesses

Fable ► Short story that states a moral at the end

Fairy Tale ► A story with fantasy characters that ends with a happy ending

Fantasy ► Includes impossible events such as talking animals or magical powers

Mystery ► Suspenseful story about a puzzling event that is not solved until the end of the story
