Planting Seeds of Friendship Sarah Myers 3\16\2011

Sunflowers Three facts Botanical name- Helianthus annuus L It yields edible seeds within 3 months of plantation(annual) The Sunflowers can grow anywhere from 3 to 15 feet tall

Plant Details 6-8 hours of direct sunlight per day Height- 3 to 15 feet tall Bloom in the late June Sunflowers will thrive in a wide range of soil types. You can plant in sandy soil or in clay and have reasonable expectations of success either way.

Watering your seeds You need Enough water during sprouting, but not too much. - When the plant is above ground, give it a lot of water during sunny days, but keep your eyes on the local weather reports for rainy days, do not water at least a day before then, cause during rainy days the sunflower can't deal with the excess water

Uses Sunflower seeds are used today as bird food, a nutritious snack, for sprouting, cooking oil, medicine, and animal feed

Plant Varieties 'American Giant Hybrid' 'Peach Passion' 'Peredovik' 'Red Sun' 'Ring of Fire' 'Rostov' 'Skyscraper' 'Soraya' 'Strawberry Blonde' 'Sunny Hybrid' 'Taiyo' (Orange-yellow, chocolate center) 'Tarahumara' 'Teddy Bear' 'Titan' 'Valentine' 'Velvet Queen' (red to dark claret, chocolate center) 'Yellow Empress'
