Standard Definition, classification, benefits types, features? Ministry of Health and standards? Medical Record Standards? 2

Standard Definition: a system that defines the performance expectations, structure or process that must be substantial in a place in organization to enhance the quality of care. Standard determine the quality for input,process,output in healthcare organization 3

5 Physicians working in the ICU should have a valid ATLS certification Standard Classification

6 The hospital assures confidentiality, security and safety of the medical record

Why we use standard/ benefits? To ensure providing high level of quality in health care To measure and evaluate the performance To identify the strength areas and other areas that has opportunity for improvement To ensure meeting the patients needs and expectations 8

Standard features Clear: simple, written in easy way, easy to interpret Realistic :applicable,can be used by concerned team Reliable: having the same result if measured by the same or different person Valid: relationship between setting standard and the expected outcomes 10

11 CLEAR STANDARDS Unclear Standard: use antibiotics to treat bacterial meningitis Clear Standard: Treat bacterial meningitis in children with (ceftriaxone), recommended daily dose (100mg/Kg) IV every (12) hours for (10) days.

12 REALISTIC Unrealistic Standards: Nurses working in the ED should have a valid certificate on ATLS Realistic Standard: At least one staff nurse in every shift in the ED should be ATLS certified

13 RELIABLE STANDARD Unreliable Standard:To assess fever in a child, put the palm of your hand on the child’s forehead and estimate the body temperature based on your experience. Reliable Standard:To assess fever in a child, measure the body temperature by placing an oral thermometer under the child’s tongue for three minutes.

14 SUCCESSFUL APPLICATION OF STANDARDS Standards must be communicated to those who are responsible for their application. Ensure that Those who receive the standards : understood it, accepted it, and will accurately implement the necessary tasks.

تطبيق المعايير في المستشفيات الريادية وقد تبيَّن خلال تطبيق معايير الجودة في المستشفيات الريادية ما يلي : 1. عدم وجود هيكل تنظيمي مطبق. 2. عدم وجود سياسات أو إجراءات عمل واضحة يمكن الاعتماد عليها. 3. عدم وجود وصف وظيفي للعاملين في المستشفيات. 4. قلة الدورات التدريبية في مجال العمل. 5. عدم وجود إدارة للجودة أو متخصصين في مجال الجودة في المستشفيات. 6. عدم تفعيل كثير من اللجان الهامة في المستشفيات. 17
