HISTORY OF CARTAGENA The History of Cartagena is rich, the bearer of a historical and artistic legacy, and is the main attraction of this port city. Cartagena is a port of a thousand cultures, an open door to the bay, from which you entered a melting pot of civilizations, cultures and religions, attracted by the strategic location and abundant resources of the territory of Cartagena. Its long history dates back to the first Europeans, preludes and blurred that mythical Tartessos Mastia of which many have identified with Cartagena. The city was founded by the Carthaginian general Hasdrubal and later seized by Plubio Cornelius Scipio was given the name of Carthago Nova and experiencing one of the most splendid periods in its history. Later, the Arabs called al-Halfa Qartayannat and Christians reconquered it in the thirteenth century.
