Sean McCoy's Graduation Project

Topic My topic is what would be a good alternative fuel for motor vehicles.

Why it was interesting to me Cars have always been my passion. Oil will not last forever so it makes me wonder about the future of cars.

My Paper

Driving Question What alternative fuel that is the most practical source of energy that would benefit the economy, and the environment?

Thesis Statement There are different alternative fuels that we can use as a modes of transportation, yet no one knows the best solution for an alternative energy that will benefit the people, the environment, and the economy.

Interesting facts (U.S. Department of Energy)  They perform well under all weather conditions, require no warm-up, have no cold-start issues (even at subzero temperatures).  highly fuel efficient -- up to 25% better than conventional spark-ignition engines."

Interesting facts GM's latest fuel cell uses energy twice as efficiently as a gas engine. Hydrogen does not put off greenhouse gases and is a renewable resource which is another benefit.

Product

What I Did For my product I created hydrogen two different ways to show how easy it is to make. The two methods I used to make hydrogen.  Electrolysis  Chemical

Downsides of Hydrogen Expensive Difficult to store Flammability

Connection between paper and product Hydrogen is a relatively an easy fuel to make so I set out to prove this by creating hydrogen two different ways.

Successes Creating hydrogen. Getting my paper finished. Finishing my product without getting burned.

Challenges Time management. Writing my paper. Remembering to take pictures of my product. Not having a mentor.

Future application/plans I plan on going into the automotive industry and this helped me with my knowledge of the internal combustion engine. This also helps me with the possible changes that could occur with cars in the coming years.
