What do you notice about these words?  Dichotomy  Diversity  Dilemma  Divorce  Divide  Dialogue  Diameter

“di-”  Prefix=?  “di-” = ?  Dichotomy  Diversity  Dilemma  Divorce  Divide  Dialogue  Diameter

A dichotomy is…  A division or contrast between two things that are represented as entirely different

Nature v. Culture  Is nature pure or wild?  Is it culture’s job to tame nature, or is it destroying nature?  In what ways do nature and culture interact?  Are these peaceful interactions?

Society v. Individual  From where does political power derive?  Who does it serve?  Who should be protected? At what cost?  How does the individual view society?  How does society view the individual?

Public v. Private  What are public spaces and what are private spaces?  What are the rights of these spaces?  What is public property?  What is private property? Slaves?

Now look at your packet.  How do you perceive these dichotomies in modern society?  Find your moon partners, discuss, and fill in your chart on page 1.  Present your answers to class.
