Welcome to Semester II ! Storytelling Spoken English II, Class 1 & 3 Dr. Janet Sio Fujian Normal University

Warm Up Conversation Where did you spend Spring Festival? When did you go home for Spring Festival? When did you come back? What did you eat for Spring Festival? Who did you spend New Year’s Eve with? Describe some traditions your family has during Spring festival and why your family has/have this/these tradition(s). How did you spend your vacation time?

The “How-Well-Do-You-Really Know-Your-Classmates?” Quiz Show 1.Two teams. Everyone has a partner. 2.One partner steps outside. 3.Other partner asks a question to the team about the person outside. Questions are on cards. 4.The partner outside comes in and answers the question. 5.If the answers match, the team gets a point.

Course Outline Homework and Attendance:30% Midterm Exam “I am..”: 30% (Week of April 22) Final Oral Exam: 40%

Pronunciation Review: Call ‘Em Up 1 = they 3 = think 5 = fit 7 =low 9 = butter 2 =day 4 =sink 6 = feet 8 = row 0 = better Write the words that are associated with your phone number. (eg = sink, they, feet - fit, sink, feet - sink, better, row, low) Tell your partner your phone number using the above words. Change partners and find out each other’s phone numbers!

Homework: Describing Things 1.Write one paragraph about some object that was meaningful to you when you were younger. It could be a gift someone gave you, something you bought or made yourself, or something that was in your home. Description of the object should include the following six topics: a. color b. shape c. size d. material e. use. f. Why was this object was important to you? 2.Review describing locations (eg. up, next to, behind, across, straight) 3.Think of transition words for storytelling
