Wider Opportunities - Music Year 4 will again provide children with the opportunity to learn an instrument – either a string instrument, the clarinet or the guitar. Over the course of the year, children will learn to play an instrument and take part in concerts at school and in the wider community, in the past these have been at the Birmingham Town Hall or Warwick Arts Centre. This is will be the children’s class music for the year and is quite different to the small group tuition. Children who are receiving small group tuition will be able to enhance their appreciation of music through wider opportunities.

Homework Guidelines suggest up to 90 minutes per week for Year 4 children. This will include ongoing reading, spelling practise and short focused tasks weekly in Literacy, Maths and Science to consolidate in-class learning, with topic/research based activities. Some tasks will be discussed in class time, others will be given written feedback. MyMaths – this will be the bulk of the maths homework, although there will be some topic related maths given occasionally and also times tables challenges. Encourage independence – please mention if support was required/ any concerns you may have if your child struggled, spent too long on it etc.

Uniform/Equipment Following school guidance: No jewellery Stud earrings only (not for PE) No nail varnish Named Uniform – especially P.E kits. They must have these in school for their P.E. and games lessons. No borrowing of kit will be allowed this year. P.E – For health and safety reasons, the policy requires children to take their earrings out for PE and not to be covered. Named inhalers in school. Hair bands for long hair in P.E. School Equipment: Bags and Coats. Outdoor Learning clothes.

Year 4 Assessment Assessing Pupil Progress (APP) – on-going teacher assessments in reading, writing and maths throughout the year. However, due to the new curriculum this will be changing at some point during the year based on local guidance. QCA tests will be taken each term at a level appropriate for your child. These will be marked internally to sit alongside teacher assessments. If children are not making the appropriate progress, we have interventions across the year group to help them. If we have specific concerns, we will contact you before parents evening.

Year 4 Autumn – Ancient Egypt Spring – A European country study (possible 1 night residential trip – still under organisation.) Summer – Romans Curriculum leaflets to be given out each term with further details.

Thank you for coming Any questions? Or please stay behind to ask me afterwards.
