School Finances The 2009 recurrent income and capital expenditure will be displayed for each school, broken down by source of funding Recurrent income will be shown in total dollars and in per student terms

School Finances

Concerns remain about the quality of the financial data to be published In particular, the data is not comparable across schools Information pack with Questions and Answers and a sample letter or newsletter article for parents and your community

Index of Socio Educational Advantage (ICSEA) ICSEA is used to determine “like” schools on the My School website Enable comparisons with schools serving students from similar backgrounds There has been a change in the method for calculating each school’s ICSEA score

ICSEA formula Version 1 : ICSEA = SES (CCD) + Percent Indigenous + Remoteness Version 2 : ICSEA = SES (CCD or SLD) + Percent Indigenous + Remoteness + Language background CCD = ABS Census collection district socio-economic and educational information geo-coded to individual student addresses (indirect parent data) SLD = Student-level information on family socio-educational characteristics of students sitting NAPLAN (direct parent data)

ICSEA Concerns about the new method of calculation Significant increases in ICSEA scores for independent schools Quality of parent background data – lack of validation of data The “similar” schools that your school was compared to in Version 1 of My School are likely to be different

Australian Curriculum Ministerial approval of the P-10 Australian Curriculum in english, mathematics, science and history is scheduled to occur at the MCEECDYA meeting on 8 th December 2010 There will be significant changes in the documents from the consultation drafts including Organisation of the content descriptors Revisions to content Reduction in the amount of content Still some unresolved issues – for example, achievement standards The Queensland Studies Authority is working with the school sectors, including Independent Schools Queensland, on implementation materials. Whole school, year level and unit plans for English and mathematics are expected to be available on the QSA website by 17 January 2011 Independent Schools Queensland has made a submission to the Queensland Government for funding to assist schools with the implementation of the Australian Curriculum
