Major Functions The Excretory System is responsible for the removal of various wastes and fluids. It also gets rid of poisonous chemicals.

Major Parts  Lungs: Keep a regular supply of oxygen and gets rid of carbon dioxide.  Skin: Contains sweat and keeps a person cool.  Liver: Regulates glycogen, plasma protein synthesis, and drug detoxification.  Kidneys: Removes liquid waste from body.

 Urinary Bladder: Stores urine until it cant anymore.  Ureter: Carries urine from kidneys to bladder.  Urethra: A tube that allows urine from the bladder to the exterior of the body.

Kidney Stone  Kidney Stone is one disease you can get in the excretory system by change or increase in salt and minerals in the urine. Crystals build up from waste chemicals. It makes a stone and it causes extreme pain.

Nephritis Nephritis is a disease caused by one or both kidneys being inflamed. Nephritis is very serious and dangerous it causes severe pain and can even be deadly.

Working Together The excretory system works with a few other body systems.  It works with the respiratory system by helping the lungs get rid of carbon dioxide.  It helps the endocrine system get rid of waste.  It also helps the digestive system get rid of waste from things you eat and drink.

Facts The average person pees about 3,000 times a year.  Kidney stones can move through your body.  A kidney stone can be the size of a golf ball.  Water forms about 95% of your urine.
