Question: What role do you play as a transportation provider and partner in a secure supply chain?

Supply chain and business partners all play a unique and critical part in the ongoing commitment to food quality and safety. Food importers rely heavily on their business partners to ensure the safe and secure movement of their goods from manufacturer to the consumer.

As consumers we expect that the food products we buy and provide to our family and friends are safe.

So lets make this personal………. How do you want the food that you and your family consume handled?

Five key area’s for improved secure transportation 1.Food Grade Trailers/Containers 2.The documentation must stay with the shipment even when multiple drivers are carrying the load? 3. Integrity of the seal from exporter to receiving location  If a seal is broken the new seal number must be relayed back to the importer. 4.Proof of custom clearance for delivery  Carrier on-line tracking tools available by Custom Brokers 5.Control subbing loads out to multiple carriers.  Are they PIP or C-TPAT certified? Does the importer know who is carrying the freight?

Questions: How do you want the food that you and your family consume handled? What role do you play as a partner in a secure supply chain? And, How do importers and transportation providers seek to continually simplify, and improve processes, procedures, and activities?

Both Canada and the United States Governments have new food initiatives being introduced. Are you aware of the requirements and how it may affect you as transportation providers? Being on the front line at the border allows you to see what works well, and what does not. Are you engaged in the discussions? Is your voice being heard?
