Learning Outcomes -

The classroom is the place where the teacher can provide a safe, comfortable environment, which is essential for learners to involve them in learning. The use of techniques for creating a joyful, productive teaching and learning environment in the classroom is called classroom management. What is classroom management?

Using different techniques is important because your classroom consists of students who have many ways of learning (It is mentioned in chapter 2 lesson 3). Students with different social and cultural backgrounds meet in the classroom. They are also different in respect of their learning abilities, attitudes and beliefs. The teacher works in the midst of this situation. The teacher has to set activities. There are many ways of doing this. Some examples of seating arrangement for different activities are given below.

T T T T Please Look at these Pattern. Then tell, Which one is suitable for techniques?

The teacher needs to know how to set activities, control and supervise/monitor the activities especially in a large class. The teacher can arrange PAIR WORK not by moving benches but by using two students sitting next to each other.

What are the essential aspects to consider in managing a class? The following aspects need to be considered by the teachers.

Teachers Voice: Graded - be aware of keeping voice at the right level while s/he is talking to the whole class or group work i.e. when you are talking to individual groups keep our voice quieter so others will not pay attention to you. Natural speed Varied pitch Clear voice:/ Strong voice

Names: Use them to nominate pupils. This cuts down on shouting. Know them,

The Room Fixed aids, charts, models etc. Ventilation Size Lighting

Some general tips to keep in mind

* Stand up when you are directing an activity. * Don’t commentate when students are working. * Don’t be afraid of silence and noise. * Use group/pair work to increase students taking time. * Admit ignorance. * Consult colleagues. * Consu1t students and encourage peer correction / support.

* Demonstrate. rather than explain, especially new activities. * Monitor their activities. * Adopt a positive attitude towards the learners. For example- a certain language item /point take the learners some time to absorb. Praise them for their positive efforts. Motivate the learners who are de-motivated and nurture those who are well motivated.
