Learning Targets, Evidence and Assessment

Good Learning Targets state clearly what it is that you consider to be crucial in a lesson or, at a higher level, in a unit; focus on central facts, concepts, skills and dispositions; are articulated within and across grades; fall within the teacher’s repertoire; and are manageable. –e.g., rather than “ Students will appreciate literature.”

Good Learning Targets consider: “Students will understand the role of imagery in Carl Sandburg’s ‘Grass’” Pile the bodies high at Austerlitz and Waterloo Shovel them under and let me work- I am the grass; I cover all.
