 Been around since 1910  Modern snowboarding began in 1965  Tom Sims produced commercial snowboards  Snowboarding used to be called snurfing

 Freestyle snowboarding requires a half pipe  Powder riding is a way to build your confidence  Half pipe looks like the bottom half of a pipe  Back Country requires special gear and training

 Always stay in control  Be able to avoid people and objects  When starting downhill look uphill and yield to others  Keep off closed trails

 Women or men can snowboard in the Olympics  The minimum age you have to be is 16  There is no maximum age limit

 Do 6-12 triceps dips daily  Do calf lifts several times a day  Strengthen your stomach muscles when you prepare for snowboarding

 You need waterproof pants  Goggles with venting  Also, you need a waterproof jacket  You also need a snowboard  Waterproof gloves  Some tight boots will also be helpful

 The most common injuries are to the wrist, shoulder, and head  In 2000, snowboarding was the fastest growing sport in the US  There are ski resorts in the US that don’t allow snowboarding
