Imperialism  The Age of Imperialism was a time period beginning around 1870 when modern, relatively developed nations were taking over less developed areas, colonizing them, or influencing them in order to expand their own power.

Imperialism  Turn and tell your neighbor what you think Imperialism is in your own words.  What might be a way to visual represent imperialism?  What images come to mind ?

What is the meaning of these pictures?  I am going to show you some political cartoons.  Thinking about the term imperialism and what it means…  What are these images trying to tell us?

Look at the countries listed on the front page of the Orange packet.  Do you remember these from last class?  The US actually acquires these during the late 1800s early 1900s. What does acquire mean?  Let’s take a look at the when, how, president, still owned and if it is a Nation/state/ or territory today  Please record on your own paper.

Working with your 12 O clock partner  Read about the Spanish American War on pages of your atlas.  Complete pages 38a and 38b with your partner.  This will be taken for a grade.  You have 25 minutes and no more!
