Timeline of Rome Caesar expands Rome Conquered all of Italy by 264 B.C. By 146 B.C. Spain, Carthage, and Macedonia are conquered. Conquered Gaul, Asia Minor, and Numidia by 44 B.C.
Difference between Assimilation and Immigration Assimilation: people forced to be citizens. Immigration: People come by themselves. America doesn’t force citizenship.
Roman Assimilation Rome forces citizenship. Forces culture blend. Welfare = free grain to poor. Jobs to the jobless.
Reasons for Immigration to U.S. America is wealthy and has freedom “All men are created equal.” Martin Luther King Jr. Better jobs and better living. Running from war.
Two Powerful Countries Supreme leading countries. Both set examples. Gives immigrants safety. Strong armies.
Problems with Rome Unstable government at times. Always in War. Constant expansion. Considered “too powerful” Citizens/other countries will rebel.
Problems with America Overpopulation. Not many jobs: Recession. Illegal immigrants. Large debt.
Conclusion America is following Rome in some ways, but not all Similar strategies in keeping people happy. Both are powerful. America has different struggles than Rome.
