Avoiding viruses and malware A quick guide

What is malware?  A virus and malware are the same thing  Spyware  Worm  Trojan  Virus

Trojan horse It appears to be useful software but will damage your computer once installed. It can vary what it does from changing desktop icons to destroying information and deleting files on your system.

Worm Wiggles its way from machine to machine. A worm usually exploits some sort of security hole in a piece of software. Infects other computers through computer networks.

Spyware It is similar to a Trojan horse in that users unwittingly install the product when they install something else. It steals from the user by using the computers memory sources.

Virus A virus replocates by inserting copies of itself into other computer programmes, data files or the hard drive.

How to avoid 1)Browsing safely – click on the correct privacy settings on browser 2)Download anti virus – there are free ones like AVG or you can pay for Norton, McAfee. You can also get AVG on smartphones. 3)Ensure firewall settings are switched on 4)Don’t open anything you don’t trust 5)Beware of misleading pop-ups. Sometimes it can be used to trick people that their antivirus has found something and then downloads the virus onto the comp0uter.

How to prevent malware….
