How I Love to Proclaim It

 “Blessed be the Lord, the God of Israel; For he hath visited and wrought redemption for his people” (Lk. 1:68)  Redemption means deliverance or release (Gr. lutrosis, lutroo):  Physical deliverance (Lk. 21:28; Acts 7:35; Rom. 8:23; Heb. 11:35)  Spiritual deliverance (Lk. 2:38; 24:21)

 “Redemption” is a releasing for (on payment of) a ransom price  We have been enslaved, in bondage to sin and we need deliverance (Jn. 8:32-34; Acts 26:18; Col. 1:13-14)

 being justified freely by his grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus (Rom. 3:24)  We have redemption in Christ alone (1 Cor. 1:30)

 “in whom we have our redemption, the forgiveness of our sins” (Col. 1:14)  We need redemption because we need forgiveness from sin and transgressions; deliverance from the guilt and power of sin (Heb. 9:15)

 “in whom we have our redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of our trespasses, according to the riches of his grace” (Eph. 1:7)  We have been bought with a purchase price (Mt. 20:28; Mk. 10:45; Acts 20:28; 1 Cor. 6:19-20; 7:23; Heb. 9:12-15; 1 Pet. 1:18-19; 2:19)  We have to apply the blood (in baptism) in order to get the redemption

 “which is an earnest of our inheritance, unto the redemption of God's own possession, unto the praise of his glory” (Eph. 1:14)  We have been redeemed in order to belong to God; to be pure and serve him (Eph. 4:30; Tit. 2:14)
