From 4 to 94, giving everyone the chance to try Canada’s sport… for free!

What is an Esso Fun Day? This program is a fun introduction to the game of hockey for the first time player, coach or official of any age. Designed as a relaxed, safe opportunity for females across Canada to learn about the game and their opportunities in a positive environment Female hockey continues to grow worldwide, this free event teaches new players, coaches and officials about the game and gets them prepared for the upcoming season Participants can learn about more opportunities to build their skills through camps provided by their local Branch and Hockey Canada Since 1998, the Esso Fun Day program has introduced the game to over 1000 new players, coaches and officials each year

Event Timeline hours on-ice instruction – Station rotation for each skill – Fun warm up and introduction – Proper ratio of instructors for focus – Game: scrimmage, soccer, tag 1 hour off-ice session – Hockey 101 introduction – Future opportunities – Team Building

Skill Development This program introduces the basic skills of the game: Forward skating Backward skating Falling/Recovery Passing Shooting Puckhandling Goaltending

Additional Off-ice Workshops (optional) Hockey 101 Basic introductory to rules, equipment & terminology Female or Minor Hockey Association Q & A for parents with a member of the local association Recruiting Female Hockey Volunteers Roles that are available with job descriptions and sign up sheets Officiating Opportunities Information session on how to get involved Coaching Opportunities Information session on levels of coaching and upcoming clinics Female Hockey Opportunities Fun introductory of provincial and national levels of the female game, local associations and next steps to get involved.
