Knowledge Center program old guidelines. n The first KC scheme allowed a student section to acquire a bunch of ISA publications of $8000 value for a $2000 investment by a sponsor.

Knowledge Center program new guidelines n The core content is prescribed: u 1. Standards CD u 2. Standards Updates u 3. Practical Guide Series (8 vol. set) u 4. Annual Meeting Proceedings u 5. InTech Magazine n The library will be subscribed for Standards updates, the Annual Proceedings, and InTech for four years. The materials will be available at a 50% discount. The cost in Europe will be $2,235. n Customer pays shipping handling and customs, if any. The library can extend its ISA holdings at any time and will enjoy the 50% discount for four years from the date of the initial Center purchase. The program will operate on a pay-as-you-go basis.

New vs Old KC scheme n The benefit is half the previous offering (50% instead of 75% discount), n Can be compared to what any distributor, including a section or a training course provider can obtain for reselling these materials. n InTECH is included at cost while other high quality revues may be obtain for free

Value of KC

Objectives n Provide valuable ISA information resources in easily accessible local centers that will be of benefit to automation + control students and practitioners. n Enhance the potential for ISA membership recruitment and retention. n Build awareness of ISA Sections, exhibits, and conferences. n Provide to local industry or Society units an opportunity for community involvement through sponsorship.

Expected outcome Recommendation to DVP Board n - Reinstall the 75% discount n - This discount is given for up to USD 4000 value based on the price list n InTECH shall not be valuated in this package (offered for free) n All downloadable material (no cost for ISA) such as standards download - single copy - and technical paper subscription shall be offered for free with the package n Shipping paid by ISA (amendment of the new scheme)

Recommendation to DVP Board n - This amount must be allocated in a chosen period of a maximum of 4 years n - possibility to allocate the full amount at once n - Maximum 4 shipping n - The actual cost - $ can come from a sponsor or from the school itself n - Additional material available at 50% discount n - The materials is freely selected by the school among designated items

Expected outcome Recommendation to DVP Board (II) n The KC can be granted only if a student section exist n The KC is a permanent agreement which ends when no more student section stays alive in the school n The KC can be granted only once for a given school. If it is cancel, it can be resumed to allow the school to benefit again additional material at 50% discount n The KC is attached to the school library, not to the student section which could be very volatile. A school staff shall be responsible of the KC, reaffirmed each year

Additional suggestions: n Consider KC as part of a wider agreement between ISA and the school, possibly based on a sort of CAP (Certificate Associate Program) or an extension of CAP to schools n Shall we impose a regular section to sponsor the KC? Our experience in Poland, which initiated the concept, showed that a poor local ISA support was possibly the cause of the failure (3 ISA members in Poland, no more students)
