Microscopy Lab

Cell Structure Lab Let’s Get Started! Grab microscope and a colored thread slide Carefully use the microscope to center the threads on the lowest power Play with the light from underneath the stage

Microscopy Check List Center the image BEFORE going up! Adjust light with diaphragm and lens underneath the stage. When on Low power drive around the whole field and choose an area that is clear and well defined.

“ I can’t see anything?!?” What do I do??? Go back down- back up one objective lens and CENTER whatever you want to look at! Focus! Be sure what you want is perfectly in focus before you go up an objective lens. Be sure your specimen is THIN and FLAT- remember the scope only focuses in one plane. Adjust the light from underneath stage.

Lab Quiz: Cell Structure Quiz Using a piece of paper from your notebook please answer the following questions. You should refer to your diagrams from your lab notebook to help you make your choice.

1. Which is the correct order of the images? A.plant, plant, plant, plant B.Eukaryote, animal, plant, onion C.Green plant, cheek cell, potato cell, and onion cells D.Prokaryotic, eukaryotic, plant, cheek 11234

2. What is the relationship between the two images? A B A.Both images are plant cells because I can see cell walls. B.Both are plant cells because the nucleus is very prominent in both images C.A has a large central vacuole and is a plant cell. B has many cheek cell stacked in layers. D.Both are prokaryotic cells

3. Animal or Plant? A.Animal B.Animal- b/c I can see a nucleus C.Plant cell- b/c I can see a large central vacoule D.Prokaryote E.Both C and D are true

A B 4. Which is Animal and which is Plant?
