About the island “Gulup-do” Located 90km north west of Inchon International Airport and 2 hours single trip distance from Inchon ferry terminal by ferry. The island is 1.71 square kilometres, current residents are less than 20 people, one of 3,000 islands in Korea. Recent history of the island the island was designated as a nuclear waste dumping ground nuclear waste dumping ground plan was cancelled privatized by a large enterprise and planned a luxury leisure complex formed a counteraction group called “Gulsamo”, the members consisted of artists and cultural activists who loved the island.
About Exhibition The exhibition was a part of campaigning to bring to the public’s awareness, the realities of the island’s situation and possible threats if the island is privatized and commercialized. Using photography, I tried to archive evidences of traditional culture in the island which may will be destroyed if the island is commercialized. Some installation and constructive work were made directly in the island for large cinematic photographs to show the artworks in a gallery located in the capital of the nation
