Pt Katalyst

Normal Paraffins and Olefins

Olefins

troubleshooting Broad or sharp C 9 P+NWater introduction-Use purified gas -Check for leaks -Condition the 13X column -Renew or check carrier gas filters Low recovery for benzene and/or polynapthene Septum leak-Replace septum Baseline increase ending at analysis time of 10 minutes Olefin trap break through-Reduce olefin trap separation temperature -Replace trap

troubleshooting Elution of aromatics during the P+N elution of the 13X column -Too long A-time -Defective valve 6 -Shorter A-time -Replace valve No aromatics elution-Defective valve 9 -Septum leak -Leak in valve 1 -Leak in valve 9 connections -Tenax or Ether/alcohol trap is not heating -Leaking of the OV275 -Leak in valve 5 -Leak in valve 2 -Leaking of the HP-1 column -Replace valve 9 -Replace septum -Check and replace when necessary -Tighten or replace connections -Check fuses of the ACI and heat the trap manually -Check connections -Check and replace when necessary -Check connections Ghost peaks at the end of the 13X elution and/or in the beginning of the first aromatic fraction -Glasswool inside the liner moved-Insert new glasswool

troubleshooting No peaks at all in the chromatogram - FID flame out -ACI does not start -Blockage of syringe -Large septum leak -Check FID signal -Check start signal GC and the cable connections -Clean or replace syringe -Replace septum Elution of ETBE during the first 13X run. -Separation temperature of Ether/alcohol trap to high -Bad working Ether/alcohol trap. -Reduce separation temperature -Replace Ether/alcohol trap. Elution of C 11 and/or C 12 saturates in the olefin 13X run. -Adsorption temperature of the Olefin trap to low. -Set adsorption temperature of the Olefin trap higher. Decalin elutes in the backflush fraction. -B-flow too low.-Increase the B-flow until Decalin elutes at 4.0 min. after the re Injection.

troubleshooting No elution during a Olefin run.-Leak at the Olefin trap.-Check connections. No elution during a 5A run.-Leak at the 5A trap.-Check connections. No complete elution of TAME in the ether fraction. -Alcohol preseparation temperature too low. -Increase the temperature of the alcohol preseparation column. No complete elution of toluene in the Porapak run after the first aromatic fraction. -Alcohol preseparation temperature too low. -B-time too low -Increase the temperature of the alcohol preseparation column. -Increase B-time
